Art Exhibition: "In Motion — The Art of Intentional Camera Movement"Exhibition · Sat, Oct 10In Motion — The Art of Intentional Camera Movement By David Richardson / ICM Photo MagicThis exhibition invites you to discover a different perspective and experience the beauty in the ordinary through David’s lens. His intentional camera movement transforms familiar scenes into one-of-a-kind works of art, offering expressive interpretations of movement and place through the combination of colour, light, and motion. After more than 40 years as a photography enthusiast, David discovered Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) about 18 months ago through the Photo Mentor Monthly Photography School. The connection was immediate, inspiring him to explore ICM as a serious art form.Since then, he has created more than 20,000 ICM images, experimenting almost daily with movement, light, colour, texture, and timing. What began as experimentation has evolved into a thoughtful and intentional creative process.

All Netted Together: Charles Darwin, Alfred Russel Wallace, and the Social Life of a TheoryExhibition · Fri, Oct 16This exhibition draws upon Libraries and Cultural Resources recently acquired D. Hall Darwin-Wallace Collection, which brings together over one hundred works by and about Charles Darwin (1809-1882) and Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913), the British naturalists who independently formulated the theory of evolution by natural selection in the late 1850s.Highlights include first editions, original Darwin letters, and a rare 1868 photograph of Darwin by Julia Margaret Cameron. The emergence of natural selection, the mechanism by which biological evolution occurs, was among the most momentous and destabilizing scientific events of the nineteenth century. Readers who opened Darwin’s On the Origin of Species found themselves confronting a new account of their own origins, one that displaced humanity from the centre of creation and bound every living thing into a single, branching family tree. All Netted Together traces that upheaval through the works that made it possible and the works it provoked: the earlier scientific writing that shaped Darwin and Wallace’s thinking, and the critiques, celebrations, and rebuttals that followed. Together, they invite visitors to revisit a theory that chan

Jack Bishop: In The PinesExhibition · Sat, Oct 17Newzones is pleased to present "In The Pines" a solo exhibition of new work by Canadian contemporary painter, Jack Bishop. In these new paintings segments of the Trans-Canada are like a topiary, where the tree lines carve out an ornamental landscape the highway cuts through. The liminal space through the wilderness in a commute. For a fleeting moment the light changes, and the familiar surroundings emote a sense of nostalgia, romanticism or déjà vu.Inspired by scrubby roadside foliage, these landscapes reimagine surrounding ditches and medians into nuanced spaces where color, light, and gesture take center stage. Moving away from realism and photographic references, my paintings embrace an intuitive approach from memory and lived experience. The tree lines become embellished forms, while thick impasto and fluorescent palettes activate the painted surface, creating landscapes that oscillate between figuration, abstraction, and sensation.Jack Bishop was born in Saint John, New Brunswick and currently lives and works in Halifax, Nova Scotia. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University in 2007. He is a three time recipient of the Canada Council for the Arts Creation Gran

Performance | Brendan Fernandes: Noise SeeExhibition · Sat, Nov 21Noise See is a performance work by Canadian visual artist and choreographer Brendan Fernandes. Originally commissioned by The Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia, the work explores themes of visibility, protest, the legacy of empire, and embodied resistance.Central to the performance are vibrant quilted tapestry costumes that evoke textiles commonly associated with contemporary Maasai culture in Kenya yet rooted in British colonial influence.Presented alongside the exhibition Other Moves, Noise See is performed as a duet: two dancers engage in a choreographic dialogue—merging and separating, concealing and revealing—through their bodily interaction with one another and their own biomorphic form as they inhabit their costume. These dynamic textiles become agents of action, shaping and being shaped by the dancers’ movements.Noise See reclaims a colonial textile legacy and transforms it into a site of protest, protection, and presence. Here, Fernandes insists that silence is not absence but a resonant and radical form of resistance. No registration required; just drop by the exhibition.
